Prohibits gender identity classroom instruction in Minnesota public schools and adds firearm safety, hunting, archery, and angling to physical education curricula.
OUR POSITIONSF3811 addresses two straightforward but significant questions about what Minnesota public schools should teach. First, it prohibits classroom instruction centered on gender identity, preserving the God-given reality of biological sex and protecting children from ideological content that contradicts the convictions of a great many Minnesota families. Second, it expands physical education to include firearm safety, trap shooting, archery, hunting, and angling, connecting students to disciplines that have shaped responsible citizenship for generations.
The prohibition on gender identity instruction is not a prohibition on compassion or on treating every child with dignity. It is a recognition that the classroom is not the appropriate venue for instruction that asks children to question the basic biological realities of their own bodies. Parents hold primary authority over how and when their children encounter these deeply personal topics, and the state school system should not work around that authority.
The outdoor education provisions reflect a healthy and long-overdue affirmation of traditional American skills. Firearm safety, hunting, angling, and archery are not fringe pursuits. They are practiced by millions of families across Minnesota and embody principles of discipline, responsibility, respect for creation, and self-reliance. Introducing these skills through accredited physical education gives students access to them regardless of family background or geography.
From a faith perspective, both provisions of this bill are consistent with a coherent view of human dignity and stewardship. Scripture affirms that human beings are created male and female, and it commends responsible dominion over the natural world. A bill that protects the former truth in the classroom and cultivates the latter virtue on the range and in the field deserves the support of communities that hold both convictions.
The American Council encourages Minnesota legislators to advance SF3811. It is a measured, principled response to legitimate concerns about the direction of public education, and it expands meaningful opportunity for students in a manner consistent with the values of a broad cross-section of Minnesota families.
